Not Again...! Boko Haram Strikes Again, Raids Yobe Towns, stealling Foodstuffs

The Chairman of Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State, Alhaji Baba Abare, on Sunday told journalists that the Boko Haram sect attacked two Yobe towns, Fika and Ngalda, on Saturday.
Abare said the militants shot sporadically at the two towns to scare away people so as to have ample opportunity to loot.

Bishop of the Kaduna Diocese of Anglican Diocese, Most Revd Josiah Idowu Fearon, has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to go after super-rich Nigerians who, during the Jonathan administration, were accused of receiving money for political campaigns.

tanFearon mentioned Transformational Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), in particular, and some public and private office holders, saying Buhari should use the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate them even as he advised the president to sanitize the armed forces, get them well equipped, and flush out Boko Haram insurgents within his first six months in office.

On if he plan to do music, Galaxy said “I never knew I was going to become a musician. I went to Davido’s studio with a friend and that was where I met Shizzy. He came up with the idea of doing a song to eulogise Akpabio. I told him I did not have money to record a song and he still went ahead to compose a beat for me. Davido fell in love with the beat and wanted it for himself. At the end of the day, we all came together, came up with lyrics and recorded the song.

A middle-aged man is currently being detained by operatives of Edo State Police Command for allegedly siphoning diesel from a truck belonging to a beverage company located at Ikpoba Hill, in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the State.

It was gathered that the suspect was ‎caught at about 4:00 am on 27 May by a vigilant night guard in the area, who noticed a flow of diesel on the ground close to where the truck was parked. He allegedly traced the flow to the truck where he found the suspect channelling the petroleum product into waiting jerry cans.

Barely 24 hours after a bomb went off at a mosque killing over 20 people, another bomb has gone off in Borno state. This time it is at Moru-Moru market at Gamboru in Maiduguri Borno state. 4 persons have so far been confirmed dead. These recent bomb attacks come 48 hours after President Buhari said the Command and Control center of the Nigerian Army will be relocated to Maiduguri until Bomb Haram is defeated.

According to the anti-graft agency, top officials of the Nigeria Central Bank, CBN, colluded with officials of private banks to defraud the country of about N8 billion. The scam involved the “theft and recirculation of defaced and mutilated currencies. The officials are set to be arraigned on Tuesday.

Thugs suspected to be APC loyalists in Nasarawa State on Friday beat Daily Trust correspondent in the state, Mr. Hir Joseph to astate of coma during Governor TankoAl-Makura’s inauguration in Lafia, the state capital. It was learnt that the thugs were angry over an analysis the reporter made on President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Al-Makura recently.

Saturday PUNCH also learnt that the thugs also accused Joseph of writing unwanted reports in the state.

The new Governor of Bauchi State, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, said the former Governor of the state, Mallam Isa Yuguda, left an empty treasury in the state. Bauchi State civil servants have not been paid March, April and May salaries while state and local government pensioners are being owed about N12bn pension arrears by the Yuguda-led government.

Abubakar stated this on Friday in a brief speech shortly after he was sworn-in as the Governor of the state by the Acting Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Umar, at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi.

The United States has removed Cuba from its list of state sponsors of terrorism. The move eliminates a major obstacle toward restoring diplomatic ties. The change now allows Cuba to conduct banking in the United States, among other activities.

The removal has been one of Cuba's key demands, as leaders from both countries have repeatedly met to negotiate the details of restoring diplomatic relations, including the opening of embassies in Washington and Havana.

Last week, diplomats met in Washington, but failed to come to an agreement on opening embassies.

Fayose praises Buhari's inaugural speech

The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has hailed president Buhari's inaugural speech.According to the statement issued by the governor’s Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor said

“the content of the President’s speech showed a man who is desirous of making a success of his administration.Nigerians, including those who voted and did not vote for President Buhari were eagerly waiting for his inaugural speech.

Just like the beginning of the game of cheers, President Muhammadu Buhari has issued directives on his first move. After being sworn in as President, he wasted no time in announcing that the Nigerian Military Command will be moving from Abuja to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, in order to fight Boko Haram.

Maiduguri has been the epicenter of the battle against Boko Haram. It is also where about 200 Chibok girls were abducted and still have not been returned. Maiduguri has also been subjected to unrelenting attacks and suicide bombings for several years.

The Ondo State Police Command have arrested four students of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, for allegedly gang-raping a female student of the institution.Vanguard gathered that the victim is a girlfriend of one of the suspects.

The suspects, according to a police source, are student in the Department of Business Education in the institution.Police source said the victim, who is on admission in a private hospital, was raped at a residence in Oka area of the town until she became unconscious.

The remains of veteran actor, Peter Bunor who died earlier this month following protracted illness will be laid to rest today at his home-town, Ogwash-Uku in Delta State.

According to funeral arrangements released by the family, the Service of songs took place yesterday Friday, May 29, 2015 at his residence located along Dominion Hostel, through Nshiagu College, Delta State Polytechnic Road, Ogwash-Uku. The United States Secretary of State, John Kerry, on Friday, described President Muhammadu Buhari’s inaugural speech as laying out “a powerful agenda.”

Kerry, who gave assurance that the United States would support the new administration to tackle insurgency and the economic challenges bedevilling the country, was accosted by journalists within the venue of the inauguration immediately after the event.
